Camille Vasquez: The Only Other Celebrity in the Depp vs. Heard Trial…Apart from Johnny

The Depp vs. Heard trial was nothing short of prime-time television as millions of viewers across the world tuned in on a daily basis to stay in the loop. As the two celebrities proceeded to publicly air each other’s dirty laundry, there was a lot to unpack and process for viewers each step of the way. People took sides (mostly Johnny’s side), internet memes were born, everyone became a body language expert and much was discussed about how men can be victims of domestic abuse as well.
What started as a defamation case between two high-profile celebrities, where Mr Depp pointed the finger against his ex-wife eventually ended up creating a third celebrity, Camille Vasquez.
Celebrities… we just love to hate them. Or more like, we just hate to love them? Admit it, you like getting your daily dose of the latest celebrity scoop in any way, shape or form – it’s your guilty pleasure. You probably even choose online slots featuring your favorite stars. Hey, don’t get us wrong, we’re certainly not judging!
Vasquez was a key part of Johnny Depp’s legal team and it is safe to say she has developed a global fan base for her legal wit and her overall persona and appearance which all came under the spotlight as she proceeded to prove her client’s accusations. Vasquez had to trend hashtags to her name and people even proudly wore t-shirts in her honour.
In only a few days, a video clip of Vasquez persistently disrupting Heard’s attorney to “object” – a legal word for filing a formal objection in court – has racked up more than 27 million views on TikTok. The viral video has sparked social media parodies, with individuals “objecting” to their friends and family in a discussion. Hundreds of millions of people have watched TikTok videos with the hashtag #CamilleVasquez.
Who is Camille Vasquez?
Before the Depp vs. Heard trial, Vasquez was nowhere close to celebrity status. In fact, there is reason to believe she prefers being under the radar. We come to this conclusion based on the fact that her Instagram profile is private.
So, who is Camille Vasquez? Ms Vasquez, who was born in San Francisco to Cuban and Colombian parents, graduated from the University of Southern California in 2006 and Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles in 2010.
She was designated a ‘One to Watch’ attorney by Best Lawyer magazine in 2021.
She’s been an associate at Brown Rudnick for the last four years, the high-profile legal firm hired by Johnny Depp to defend him in his $50 million defamation action against Ms Heard. She is one of the firm’s nine attorneys participating in the case. She excels in litigation and arbitration, with a concentration on plaintiffs’ representation in defamation actions, which is what she did for Mr Depp.
Social Media is Divided on Vasquez
On Twitter, there have been all kinds of tweets where the subject has been Vasquez and many tweets have even been directed at her. Twitter seems to be divided, as always although the division is lop-sided and the majority seems to be in support of Vasquez. There are some that think she was on the wrong side of history and one user even called her out supposedly setting back the efforts of the feminist movement by over half a century.
Fans and supporters however had nothing but words of praise for the attorney. They’ve even gone as far as crowning her a champion who stood up for male victims of domestic abuse.
It is unfortunate to see how people are viewing this celebrity court case as men vs. women, instead of seeing it for the truth and for what it is. At the end of the day, the truth is what matters and not how the case affected the feminist movement. Each case needs to be looked at for its individual facts and not based on whether one person is a man or woman or a celebrity.
In the end, Vasquez emerged mostly triumphant as the majority of the jury’s decisions sided with her client. After the verdict was announced, Vasquez made a press statement right outside the courthouse.
In the statement, she spoke about how the verdict confirmed what she and her team has fought for from the start. She said that the allegations against her client were defamatory in nature and were not based on any evidence.
She added that they were grateful to the jurors for their careful deliberation and unbiased judgment. She also thanked the court, the judge and the court staff for their time and efforts.
