4 Facts About the ‘Borat’ star Maria Bakalova – Family and More

Maria Bakalova is a 24-year–old Bulgarian actress, well-known as a musician, and singer from Burgas. Playing a lead role as Yana in the 2018 film called “Transgression” rose her to fame for the first time.

Maria Bakalova is famous for her role as Tutar Sandiyev in the 2020 film called “Borat” Subsequent Movie film. According to IMDBs, Maria was trained as a flutist and singer since she was a child and later she studied at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia.

The Bulgarian dramas and comedies “The Father”, “Transgression” and “Last Call” are her handful of professional credits. The actress has not yet shared any details about her parents and she rarely uses social media platforms.

Some of the epic roles played by Maria are: She played the character named Valentina in 2019’s The Father, and was “Girl in Taxi” in 2019 short, Due to Unforeseen Circumstances, she appeared in a 2017 episode of Gomorrah. However, her passion for acting earned her the Best Actress award at the Alternative Film Festival for her role as Yana in 2018’s Transgression.

Though Maria rarely uses social media, she is currently active on Instagram with over 63.4k followers. Maria is seen cuddling cats and dogs in numerous posts on her Instagram account. Maria is a born Bulgarian and of course, her fans will know that her birthday is on June 4, 1996. She started her singing and flute lessons at the age of six. She was a student at the National School of Arts in Burgas, majoring in acting for drama theatre. Maria did her second major in flute. Later, she continued her studies at the National Academy for Theatre & Film Arts in Sofia and she was successfully graduated in 2019.

4. She supports Black Lives Matter

Maria posted an IG video/clip that showed the words “Black Lives Matter” over and over again on Instagram on May 31, 2020. She also showed her participation in #BlackOutTuesday on June 2, 2020, by posting a back square to her own Instagram feed.
