He is best remembered for writing the 1968 song “Mr. Bojangles”. He spent his early folk music days in Greenwich Village in the mid-1960 and later settled in Austin, Texas in the 1970s. He used to play guitar and harmonica and has released several albums over the years including Ridin High in 1975.

He was an icon of Texas country music who has done a string of popular recordings and died on October 23, 2020, at the age of 78.

Singer-song writer Jerry Jeff, also known as “Gypsy Songman” was born Ronald Clyde Crosby on March 16, 1942, in Oneonta, New York. His maternal grandparents used to compose music and play piano for the square dances in the Oneonta area. Ironically, Walker was not a native Texan.

In the early 1960s, he used to sing in the bars and on the street corners. One day while performing in the streets Walker met songwriter Bob Bruno and that was a turning point in his life. Later he formed a band with Bruno and formed a band called the Lost Sea Dreamers (later Circus Maximus) and relocated to New York City.

When it comes to achievements of Jerry Jeff Walker Wiki, Walker first recorded with the folk group Circus Maximus for Vanguard in 1967. The band broke after his second album and Walker signed with Atco and published his first album Mr.

Bojangles which allowed him to embark a solo career. Later in the 1970s and 1972, he scored a hit with his version of the Guy Clark song L.A Freeway. In 19733 he recorded a live album in Texas called ‘Viva Terlingua’. This album went gold and was his biggest-selling album to date.

His succeeding records of the 70’s include – It’s a good night for Singin, Ridin’ High and a Man Must Carry On. In 1986, he formed an independent music company Tired and True Music, and released albums under it. To date, all his great works live in the hearts of people and equally is considered a great living embodiment of cosmic cowboy.

Knowing this Walker bequeathed 100 boxes of his music archives to Wittliff Collections at Texas State University, including tapes and photographs.
