K.L. Rahul is an Indian international cricketer with a major role of opening batsman and wicket-keeper. He plays domestically for Karnataka and captains Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League. He is in limelight because of his great performance and extraordinary achievements in the IPL 2020.

Early Life, Parents, Siblings
KL Rahul was born on 18 April 1992 in Mangalore. He was the son of RN Lokesh and Rajeshwari. His father was a professor by profession and the former director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka whereas his mother is a professor at Mangalore University. He was the son of two professors. His father wanted to keep his name after the name of Gavaskar’s son but mistakenly kept Rahul instead of Rohan.
Education:
Rahul completed his schooling from NITK English Medium school whereas pre University at St. Aloysius College. At the age of 18, he went to Bangalore for higher education from Jain University, and finally, he pursued his cricket career.
Domestic Career
Rahul started his cricket training at the age of 10 and at the age of 12 he started playing for Bangalore United Cricket Club and his club in Mangalore.
Rahul started his career in first-class cricket from Karnataka in 2010-11season. In the same year, he represented his country in the ICC under 19 Cricket World Cup.
He finished his 2014-15 Ranji trophy by scoring an average of 93.11 in the season for the nine matches that he played.
International Debut
Rahul made his international debut in the 2014 Boxing Day Test at Melbourne cricket ground. He didn’t perform well in the two innings but still managed to retain his position and in the next test match in Sydney made his maiden international hundred.
Achievements:
In international debuts KL Rahul has made the following achievements and records in his name:
-He became the first Indian to score a century on a one-day internatioNal Debut.
-He became the third Indian to score a century in all three formats of international cricket.
-He is the only player to score a hundred in the first innings as an opener in both tests and ODIs.
IPL Achievement
Rahul made his IPL debut for Royal Challenger Bangalore and also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the 2020 IPL auction, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for INR11 Crore which was the joint third-highest price.
In the match played against the RCB, he scored an unbeaten 132 off just 69 balls with this break the record of the most runs scored by any Indian batsman in IPL. He also became the only captain to score the most runs in IPL.
In Controversies
On 11 January 2019, he was suspended by BCCI along with Hardik Pandya for their controversial comment made in an Indian talk show.
The suspension was lifted by BCCI on 24 January 2019 after which they were allowed to rejoin the squad for India A matches.
