Sushil Kumar is an Indian freestyle wrestler who is the first Indian to win back-to-back individual Olympic medals. He won the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics 2008 and a silver medal at the London Olympics 2012.

Sushil’s early life
Sushil Kumar was born on May 26th, 1983 at Baprolla village, in southwest Delhi. His father Diwan Singh is a bus driver and his mother’s name is Kamala Devi. His cousin Sandeep is also a wrestler who inspired Sushil to take up wrestling.
Education details
When Sushil Kumar was 14, his father helped him to start wrestler training at the ‘akhada’ or wrestling academy in Chhatrasal stadium, New Delhi. Sushil has completed his Bachelor of Physical Education and Masters of Physical Education at Noida college of Physical education, Dadri.

Sushil Kumar gets married to former tennis player and gold medalist Savi Kumar. They have 2 sons.

Career
- Sushil Kumar’s father was also interested in wrestling, and his cousin Sandip was a wrestler. So Sushil gets inspired by him and he joined akhada wrestling academy when he was 14. Famous Wrestler Satpal is one of the coaches for him.
- Sushil started to compete in the junior levels and in 19898, he won his first tournament at the World Cadet Games when he emerged as the gold medal winner. After two years, he won the gold medal again in Asian Junior Wrestling Championship.
- He participated in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship and won the gold medal in the 66kg freestyle category and bronze in 66kg.
- Sushil won the bronze medal in the 66kg freestyle category in Doha Asian Games. In the 2007 Commonwealth Wrestling championship, again won the gold medal in the same freestyle 66kg category.
- In the Beijing Olympic which was held in 2008, he bagged the bronze medal in the same category.
- In the 2010 World Wrestling Championships which was held in Moscow, Sushil made history by becoming the first Indian to win a world title in wrestling. In the same year, he won the gold medal in the freestyle 66kg in Commonwealth Games, Delhi.
- In the 2012 London Olympics, Sushil won the silver medal in 66kg freestyle and he became the first Indian to win the back-to-back medals individually in the Olympics.
- In 2014, Sushil won the gold medal in 74kg freestyle, at the commonwealth games which were held in Scotland.
