Val Edward Kilmer was born on December 31st, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, United States. His mother is Gladys Swanette, and his father is Eugene Dorris Kilmer. His father is a real estate developer and aerospace equipment distributor.

When Val Kilmer was 8 years old, his parents got divorced in the year of 1968. His grandfather was a gold miner in New Mexico, and he has two brothers named Mark Kilmer who is a psychologist/his elder brother, and his younger brother Wesley Kilmer who died at the age of 15 in a drowning accident.
